Targeting employees with mental health promotional sessions in their working environment is key to productivity and development to a health nation.
YONECO through its mental health project which is being funded by Comic Relief organized a mental health session for employees at Nsamala Tobacco Estate in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mlumbe, Zomba District.. The mental health session reached out 60 males and 56 females.
The session was facilitated by members of staffs from the Ministry of Health and Population in collaboration with Community Mental Health workers from YONECO.
The main objective of the session was to equip employees with positive ways of promoting mental health and possible strategies of reducing Gender Based Violence (GBV) at their work place and in their communities.
A mental health psychiatric nurse discovered that smoking marijuana, drinking alcohol and GBV are the main concerns among employees in the tobacco estates that are in the area.
Therefore, participants were targeted to be equipped with adequate knowledge and skills on how to promote their mental wellbeing and some possible ways of managing and reporting GBV cases.
